I have enjoyed using a wide variety of media as a 'spare-time' and holiday artist, working in pastel and watercolour. Recently I began to explore the medium of graphite.
I am a woodland and forest fanatic, visiting wild woods and ancient trees in the UK and abroad, from the Redwoods of California to the olive groves of Greece, the city trees of Europe, the ancient oaks of England, and the remnants of old rainforests in Wales and the West Country. In order to capture the nature and detail of a living tree, I take a series of photographs before starting on the drawing, which I complete in the studio.
My work has been shown in public exhibitions, most recently the Harley Foundation Biennial Summer Exhibition.
Most of my drawings are available as original works, Giclée fine art prints, and standard inkjet prints. Originals are supplied framed, prints are mounted and unframed. Giclée prints are signed.

Olive tree in Arcadia, Greece. The European Olive originated 20-40 million years ago and thrives in the Mediterranean climate.
Olive trees are long lived and are passed down through families, becoming symbols of wealth. It's impossible to calculate the age of this one but it's probably several hundred years old.

The Queen Elizabeth Oak is a sessile oak tree (Quercus petraea) in Cowdray Park, West Sussex, England. It has a girth of 12.8 metres and is about 800-1,000 years old.

Legend has it that Queen Elizabeth I stood under the tree with her bow, waiting to shoot a stag which was being driven towards her. Apparently she missed!

Chatsworth House is one of Britain’s foremost stately homes. It sits on a raised terrace overlooking the River Derwent and is backed by a steeply rising, well-wooded ridge. This tree is beside the footpath that winds up the hill through the woods.

The Yorkshire Sculpture Park, in the grounds of Bretton Hall, West Yorkshire, is home to a world class collection of works by many leading sculptors. The one shown here is a giant egg, titled Oeuvre, and is by Gavin Turk. It’s sited on the bank of the lake, and I’ve drawn the lake and an eyot in the background.

This beech tree is on one of the hills above Todmorden in West Yorkshire. It lies beside the track leading up to a farmhouse where I lived for 11 years, and I used to pass it almost every day. It is an old friend, and last time I was there it was still going strong.

The Silver Birch (Betula pendula) is in folklore a symbol of purity. It’s a a striking, deciduous tree with elegant, drooping branches. When mature it can reach 30m in height. It grows as far south as Spain and as far north as Lapland, and seems to love the Yorkshire Pennines.

Endcliffe Park contains one of several areas of ancient woodland in the City of Sheffield. The Porter Brook, which runs through it, is one of Sheffield’s five rivers, and a walk beside it leads from Hunter’s Bar, not far from the City centre, up the valley to the edge of the moors.

Eryri (Snowden) National Park contains several areas of Celtic Rain Forest. These threatened habitats provide perfect conditions for rare plants, lichens and forest fungi to grow, as well as trees. I’ve tried to capture this dense profusion in my drawing.
